I'm probably not the biggest film fan but I do watch out for the newest stuff , mostly only the big blockbusters though or for films that won some awards recently.
The thing is that when I was a kid (maybe I still am ) , all the films were great for me, even all those awkward Police Academy films, the Hercules series that was so lame I can't believe I watched it. I watched with huge eyes, remembering every moment and , in my opinion, there were a lot more films to choose from than today, but it's tricky because now I can say I saw this and that, and back in those times everything was new for me.
I don't know what's the situation on the islands, but here , the schedule for a week :
CSI Miami, New York, Idaho and christ knows what ( i hate this series , i "love" the way they examine one bone and say :
"the victim's mum was a gardener when she was young".
Maybe it's there for to show that all these CIA people or police are really cool people, but it's simply so out-of-this-world, absolutely unreal. Another one is Bones, even the name of the heroine is terrible, and I'm not even talking about the plots there. And such crime series are killing the brain cells of the viewers, I'm used to sophisticated crimes (a la Hercule Poirot) when there are 5-6 people that could murder and you, 'til the final shot, are nervous who did that.
Also films, probably the last good film I saw was The last king of Scotland, though I'm planning to watch No country for old men today (and maybe the Oscar-winning film with Daniel Day-Lewis in it, forgot the name). All the big blockbusters , all the Harry Potter movies (I haven't seen any), the Lord of the rings movies, the Supermans, Spidermans, Batmans and Captain Americas nowadays have NOTHING to say, they are just trying to amaze you with special effects and you get the happy-end you wanted at the end. Apart from it, nothing.
And it's absolutely true, the less money in the film, the better it is, because it's made with more heart.
I recently saw a Russian film called "Stupid fat rabbit" about a village theatre, the hard days of people in it, how they have to take up two jobs to feed the family but they still do it and the film was tremendous, absolutely. There was nothing that was super-extra-giga-mega-special like the whole city exploding and you "felt" the people there. The rabbit was an actor who played a rabbit in a spectacle for little children , a musical shows with animals in it.And it was also about how does all this limit your creativity because he, when on stage, went a bit crazy (didn't say the text he had to) and philosophied about everything and because of this they fired him.But this film was really an exception.
What's your opinion? Do you experience the same or do you like this new wave of cinematography?
