After several weeks of speculation Le Parisien reports that veteran French defensive-midfielder Claude Makélélé is not interested in swapping Chelsea for Paris Saint-Germain…
Media speculation has been intense on PSG over the last few weeks as new President Charles Villeneuve attempts to quickly mould a team once again capable of challenging for a European spot.
The tack that the former journalist has taken has been to try to sign some of France's best known veterans. Lillian Thuram, Robert Pires, Ludovic Guily and Claude Makélélé are all amongst the players targeted by Villeneuve according to press reports.
This quartet all boast fantastic experience and a superb pedigree and would likely come cheap with regards to a transfer fee. Question marks remain over their fitness and large wage demands.
Pires has already turned down a potential move to the French capital and it seems that Claude Makélélé will do the same. According to Le Parisien the destructive Chelsea midfielder would prefer to sign a 2 year extension to his deal at Stamford Bridge and play under incoming manager Filipe Scolari.
Scolari is thought to be a big admirer of Makélélé's organisational abilities on the football field and could lay the foundations of a side around him.
Any doubts over Makélélé's current ability were dispelled during Euro2008 when he was one of the few French veterans to have an acceptable tournament. So poor was the performance of team-mate Thuram that PSG have reportedly only offered the aging centre-back a 12 month deal.
